James Seligman and I talk about what we liked and didn’t like about affiliate summit west 2010, and a couple other things. This is the first time we hit record during a skype call, and we start off a little sheepish but soon relax to our normal candor.

Let us know if you would like to hear more from the both of us, and we can hit the record button again. We talk like this all the time, just not on the record.

I think our session as ASW just got overshadowed by the one that you went to because they had bigger names than we did. :( We were in the program and all that, but the names of the two sessions were very similar. You’ll have to catch us on the videos!

I was thinking last year that Affiliate Summit might want to start designating courses as basic track or advanced track. I think it could save a lot of people from sitting through sessions that are not what they are looking for.

I didn’t attend many sessions this time (maybe any??), but it was because I had so many meetings and other things to do. I contrast that, however, with my first couple of Summits. I went to a session almost every hour. I had so much to learn about affiliate marketing and not many people to meet with. It’s definitely an evolution. I think new people come in and NEED those sessions. Those of us who have been around for awhile have a harder decision to make because we need face time to network as well.

As far as the parties go, I don’t think they are meant for networking–for the most part. A lot of them are just thrown as an “appreciation” for the customers. I think that’s why Affiliate Summit has started including some different options for the evenings (things like the trivia). In the past they have also had just open areas with a little music where you could hang out and use your drink tickets. It seems to change each time.

I enjoyed hearing your perspectives on Affiliate Summit. It’s always interesting to hear what everyone else gets out of it!

Longest blog comment prize? Sure, why not. :)

So, you agree that the sessions are for those new to affiliate marketing, and that networking face-to-face is what everyone else does. We were told that the SAS party was for networking, but alas it wasn’t.

I think a number of the sessions are for those who are new. Some update their sessions every time (Wil Reynolds is a genius at SEO, plus the legal issues keep changing) and thus are worth going to every year. But if you have the choice between attending the session or getting a chance to meet with an affiliate manager that you only know via email/phone, you might as well meet the AM and catch the video later.

The SAS party is usually a little more conducive to networking than a lot of the ones held at nightclubs. They at least set up some “conversation areas” compared to the parties with nothing but loud music and no place to hang out. I like both types of parties, though, so I can’t complain. :)

The Wynn is on the strip and it’s not quite the northern most hotel. The Stratosphere definitely is.

My plan is that if the Wynn is out of the price range, the Courtyard Marriott is around the corner and very affordable. No Vegas glitz, but a nice hotel.

The picture thing is called a watermark. That’s a good idea! I set up an action in Photoshop a couple years ago.

Watermark.. yes! We both just lost that word from our vocabulary at the time.
I use to work at a Courtyard… they’re good enough.
The Wynn is the first hotel & casino that you get to if traveling south from the street it is on. Trust me, I walked 1.7 miles to get to a casino one night, and walked it back. That’s where the blister came from!

Hey guys – I finally listened :) I use Picasa for my photo management, and when you export the photos, you can very easily watermark them: http://picasa.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=106193

Thanks for all your comments. I guess it wasn’t bad for the first one ever. My biggest concern was sounding good (and know what I was talking about) and also being interrupted by the kids. Thanks for the watermark tip Eric. Maybe we’ll do another one soon

It felt a little scripted in the beginning, but then you guys relaxed a bit. If you record again, I’ll listen again :)

Eric, aren’t you like the only person using Picasa though? :p

Trisha, it seems I am. They just make it so easy to go from my computer to posting them online, ordering prints, etc. Geotagging & facial recognition helps, too. I do wish, however, that I could post directly from Picasa to Facebook or Flickr. (Maybe I can, and I just don’t know it)

It seems the picasa servers are down when I try to check out that link, Eric.
